The date on the magazine appears to be October, 1977. It's on the top left but a bit fuzzy.

I don't believe C. Thomas Howell is the father because he and Rae divorced in either 1989 or 1990. The girl would at least be a teenager by now if she were his. Plus, C. Thomas Howell is rather "dark" (olive-complected with dark hair and eyes) to produce such a Nordic looking daughter with Rae IMO. I know it can and does happen sometimes but I think it's rare.

I've noticed that often when mixed heritage children turn out really white, like Eartha Kitt's, Angela Ermakova's, and Victoria Rowell's daughter - and Tai Babilonia's son - the fathers (or in cases where the mother is white) are often blonde and blue eyed.

Eartha's daughter Kitt isn't a natural blond. Her hair is naturally dark and curly. She was a dancer in her younger years. The first picture I saw of her she had a 'mulatto' appearance.

Rae's son is from her first marriage to Owen Baylis. Her marriage to C. Thomas Howell was short-lived and didn't produce any children.

I haven't been able to find out any information on the net regarding who the father of Rae's daughter is. Or, when she was born.

If the father is not this mystery man, I bet my bottom dollar he's the same type.

Three years ago on MTV Cribs, Downtown Julie Brown (80's VJ) was featured and they showed her German husband Martin Schuemann and daughter. Again, the daughter was white skinned, Caucasian featured, with straight blonde hair and blue eyes just like her dad.

Jessica Grové, Eartha Kitt, and Kitt Shapiro (Eartha's daughter)
someone posted his picture before as Kitts daughter, I don't think Jessica is Eartha's granddaughter and even she isn't a natural blond.

Eartha Kitt's daughter as a young child...

In every childhood picture I've ever seen of Kitt Rothschild (formally Shapiro), she was a wavy haired sandy blonde.

But I don't doubt at all her hair darkened with age.

More pics of her and her famous mom can be found below...

Eartha's Granddaughter is named Rachel and IMO takes after her father.

Her Grandson is named Jason and is pictured here.

soledad's secret

http://www.traditionalhome.com/design_decorating/howwelive/soledadobriean_1.html

Soledad’s grasp of the big picture translates as kid-friendly design. “We want to live our lives as a family, not tiptoe around an apartment furnished with anything too precious. That means washable fabrics, a lot of warmth and color, and nothing overdecorated.” (Soledad is shown here with Sofia, 6, Jackson and Charlie, 3, and Cecilia, 5.)

In October of 1999, Sonia Rolland won the "Miss Burgundy" beauty contest that allowed her to compete for the Miss France 2000 title, which she won. At the Miss Universe 2000 pageant, which took place in Cyprus, Rolland was a top 10 semi-finalist, placing 9th overall.

Hello all,

One of the most famous examples are Joan and Constance Bennet. Two of America's most treasured, and successful Movie Stars.

Clearly, had America known about their background they would not have had a career (evident by the times in which they lived).

Do you have any documentation? What is your source? What ancestry are you referring to?

A Black, Jewish Officer in the Civil War
Contributed by: Phil Downey

Mr. Downey writes:

My great great grandfather Morris Morris was an officer in the Louisiana Native Guard. Morris' mother's maiden name was Carvalho. It is my understanding through oral family history that Morris Morris was Jewish. I have also come to learn that Morris was also part black *I do not know what percentage. Morris migrated to New Orleans with his mother from Jamaica shortly before the war began. I have confirmed through the Jamaican Jewish Genealogy website, that the Carvalho's of Jamaica were Jewish.* I also believe Morris' father was Jewish, thought I have no firm proof on this matter. There is a website dedicated to the Louisiana Native Guard which contains information and photos of Morris Morris. After the war Morris changed his name to Lewis Morrison and went on to become one of the great stage actors of the latter 19th century. I believe he changed his name for two reasons:

1). To escape his African heritage. He was probably considered a Creole in New Orleans. In his photos he has predominantly white features, and:

2). To escape his Jewish heritage. Sadly Jews and Irish Catholics, next to Blacks, were the most despised of White ethnic groups in the late 19th century.

I do not believe that he would have been able to pursue his career in acting had he not changed his identity, FYI, Lewis is the grandfather of Joan and Constance Bennett and the great grandfather of Morton Downey, Jr.

Morris Morris' regiment, "The 1st Louisiana Native Guard," organized as a Confederate Home Guard regiment in June of 1861 and was accepted for service as a Louisiana Militia unit by the Governor of Louisiana shortly thereafter, but was not documented as having seen combat as a Confederate regiment. After the Union occupation of New Orleans in 1861/62, some Black and mulatto officers and enlisted men of the regiment accepted Union service and formed a new USA regiment under the same name. Therefore, although Morris Morris served briefly as a Black Jewish Confederate officer, most of his military service and all of his combat service in the War was as a Union officer. The reorganized "Native Guard" did fight in many battles on behalf of the Union.
At the battle of Port Hudson the 1st Louisiana Native Guard, USA, was the first Black Regiment to fight in combat for the Union.

Historically, Morris Morris is more correctly listed listed as a Union officer.

Shalom,
Phil Downey

Lt. Morris Morris on the "Louisiana Native Guards" website

* Incidents of Travel and Adventure in the Far West by Solomon N. Carvalho can be found on this website. Solomon Carvalho was a native a Barbados, and very probably a relative of Morris Morris.

The Edwards family featured in Traditional Home Magazine.

http://www.traditionalhome.com/design_decorating/howwelive/edwardshouse_ss1.html

Quote:
“I think as parents we want to make sure our children understand that we are a part of a bigger world, and we have to think of people less fortunate,” says Kristie Edwards, shown here in the sunroom with Mike and their children Clay, Jackson, and Kate. “We are a religious family, and we believe this is how God intended it to be: We should help one another to the best of our abilities.”

Kristie and Mike Edwards have donated countless hours to helping African-American and Hispanic boys and girls in Chicago’s inner city. They began coaching Little League 15 years ago and were struck then with the need to do more for these youngsters. The Edwardses joined good friends Bob and Tina Muzikowski to found Chicago Hope Academy—a coed, nondenominational Christian high school on Chicago’s near west side.

“We felt that these children were getting lost in the cracks after the three months in the summer we spent with them,” Kristie says. “These weren’t necessarily the A or F students, but the B and C students who needed structure and guidance.”

In 2004, the Muzikowskis, the Edwardses, and other donors bought and renovated an old school building near downtown Chicago. The school opened in 2005 with about 72 students, and it now has about 115 boys and girls enrolled in grades 9 through 12.

Shortly after the school opened, Kristie and Mike opened their home to two students, who live with the family during the school week. “We have the space, so why not share?” Kristie asks.

For more information about Chicago Hope Academy, call 312/491-1600, or visit the school’s Web site, chicagohopeacademy.com.

I am a Swedish woman with mixed heritage. I have just found this website and i find it very intersting. I have always been interested in reading about genetics and mixed people.
My father was Cuban ½ black and ½ white but his skin was quite dark and my motehr is Swedish with typical Swedish features, blond hair, blue eyes and freckles. I look a little like Victoria Rowall but I have a lighter complextion. I have four children, two girls and two boys and when I was pregnant I always thougth that at least one of my children would be looking mostly like me.
All my children are lighter than me. One of them has skin colour like a latin american but the other children are white. One of them has green eyes and one really dark brow eyes like me, the other two has light brown eyes. They were all blonde until they were 5-6 years old, not sandy hair, real blond, one of them almost white hair. My youngest daughter who is 7 years old is still blond, but more sandy now and I think she will remain that way. Two of them has curly hair (but with "white texture) and the other two has straight hair.
No one of my children look "black" and I nor anyone else here in Swedish would call them "black". To me and other people here in Sweden it is very fascinating the way most people in USA call everyone with a black decsendant "black". The way I see it you call people the way they look. If you look black and have dark skin you are black, if you have medium brown skin you are mixed and if you look white you are white, it is as simple as that, if you even have to label people at all. We are all humans! Very Happy

It is odd, isn't it? But it is historically rather recent. Until the turn of the 20th century, most USAmericans labeled people by their appearance, just as the rest of the world does now. But starting around 1890 the United States went through a horrible 50-year period of state-supported oppression and terrorism against Afro-descended citizens. The one-drop rule was adopted by Black victims in order to enhance solidarity, and by White perpetrators in order to ostracize Whites who befriended victimized Blacks. Since it was in everyone's interest to adopt the ODR myth, it remains strong among many USAmericans today. Whether it will survive into future generations is anyone's guess.

I hope for humanitys sake that it will not go on for years and years. It is so sad and it makes me feel really sorry for all the mixed people in USA who have to
1. deny one side of their parents heritage
2. be labelled as some kind of "product of a bad relationship" by some people at least.
I could never deny or forget about my mothers side of the family. I feel very Swedish and at times I forget that I have another skin colour than my husband who is Swedish and "white". Ï also feel Cuban because of my upbringing with my Cuban father, but I feel more Swedish because I have never been in Cuba.
Can I ask you, Frank W. Sweet what heritage you have? In some mesage I read that you talk about your grand children. Are your children married to "white" americans? I hope you don't get offended by me asking this.

I guess all grandparents boast incessantly about their beautiful and intelligent grandchildren, and I am no different. <grin> Culturally, I am Puerto Rican. My four grandparents were born in: Spain, Colombia, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. "Frank W. Sweet" is an alias, so to speak. My real name is "Francisco Ramon Valiente." My friends call me "Paco." Genetically, I am 75-13-12 Euro-Afro-Amerind. Of our three children, one is single. Our elder daughter married a White American. Our son married a dark Trinidadian, whose mother is of East Indian Trini ancestry and father is of Afro-Caribbean Trini ancestry. Culturally, she usually self-identifies as Trini but, like most children of Anglophone West Indian immigrants, she also often considers herself African-American. All five of our grandchildren "look white" to most USAmericans, although Miles (the 3-year-old) looks Hispanic after spending a day in the sun.
